Mitchell K. Rode, DVM - Owner

Dr. Rode earned his veterinary degree from Michigan State University in 1980.  He moved to Virginia in 1982 and initially worked out of a mixed practice in Winchester.  He started Equine Medical Services in 1987, basing it in Clarke County.  Dr. Rode and his wife, Alison, reside in Berryville, where they currently own and operate the practice.  He has a special interest in foals and reproduction, as well as general preventive care.  Dr. Rode has always had an interest in and promoted the need for equine veterinarians to work together, and thus is happy to collaborate with other veterinarians in order to provide the best possible care for horses.  He oversees the daily activities and cases treated at the hospital and is also the mentor for our interns and visiting senior veterinary students.  Dr. Rode serves on the Educational Programs Committee of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and is also active locally, serving on the Board of the Clarke County Education Foundation and, in his spare time, coaching baseball at the local high school.

Chad S. Davis, DVM - Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Chad S. Davis joined Equine Medical Services in 2009 following a 2008 internship.  Dr. Davis, a.k.a. Dr. Chad, is a 2008 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts and spent his senior year of veterinary school at Virginia Tech.  He is originally from southern California and spent over two decades working as a veterinary nurse and employed by Pfizer Animal Health, Inc. prior to entering veterinary school.  Dr. Chad and his wife, Dr. Stephanie F. Davis, also an equine veterinarian, are avid event riders and enjoy competing when not working as course veterinarians.  Their home, Brimstone Farm at Shadow Gate, located in Upperville, Virginia is an active event training facility and recently the location of their wedding.  Dr. Chad has a particular interest and specialized training in sport horse medicine, including lameness evaluation, injury rehabilitation, emergency medicine, and especially sport horse nutrition.
