Emergencies

Emergency services are offered by Equine Medical Services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!

If you have an emergency, please call us at (540) 955-9115.  If no one is able to answer your call directly, please listen to the message on the answering machine for the mobile phone number of the doctor who is on-call that night.  Additionally, please leave a message on the machine stating your name, telephone number, and a description of the emergency situation.
After leaving a message, please call the mobile phone number of the doctor on-call and explain your situation to him/her.

In most emergency situations, we recommend that your horse is hauled to our clinic.  This is not because we don't want to come out but rather because we feel we can do a better job in providing for your needs at our clinic.  If you do not have access to a trailer, we have a list of people that provide hauling services to different areas.  We are happy to arrange for your horse to be hauled in at a reasonable cost to you!

It is recommended that horses be brought to the clinic for several reasons:

- Provides a clean, dry environment for treatment of wounds/injuries
  - Access to technologies not routinely available through an ambulatory service
(i.e. endoscopy, in-house laboratory, oxygen support, etc.)
  - Allows for the quickest available diagnosis and treatment
  - Patient can be monitored by professional staff 24/7
