Services

The veterinarians at Equine Medical Services are committed to providing the highest quality of veterinary medicine for your horse.  We offer a multitude of services, which are listed under the appropriate tabs to the left of the screen.  Please click on these tabs to learn more about the services we provide for our clients.

A brief list of some of the more common services we provide are:

    - routine preventive care, including vaccinations and Coggins testing
Whether it's a backyard pet or an Olympic caliber athlete, all horses benefit from strategic preventive care plans to insure continuing health.  Individualized vaccination plans and preventive strategies based on your needs are the backbone of the care we provide.
    - annual physical examinations and well care packages

Especially with the very young as well as geriatric horses, annual check-ups and our pre-enrolled annual plans can serve to prevent the development of problems and lead to longer, fuller lives for the horses in our care.
    - nutritional, farm management and parasite control consulting

Overall health care for the horse involves management of the environment as well.  Our approach takes into account the bigger picture, incorporating environmental advice into our recommendations for care.
    - radiography (digital)

Digital radiographs (xrays) have the advantage of being able to be viewed immediately, can be adjusted and manipulated to deliver best results in a variety of circumstances, and provide you, the owner, with a permanent record of your horse's findings.  21st century technology brought to the farm!
    - ultrasound (regular and digital)
Ultrasound technology allows us to look at the "soft" tissue structures of the horse -  tendons, ligaments, muscles, joints, in addition to internal organs not readily accessible via xrays.  Ultrasound is used extensively in our lameness and sport horse work, as well as in our reproductive services.
    - dentistry

Significant advances have been made in the area of equine dentistry over the last several years.  Using modern technology and power instruments, we can make life much easier for horses having their teeth worked on and the results can extend their healthy lifespan.
    - endoscopy (portable fiberoptic as well as videoendoscopy and gastroscopy)
Endoscopy involves passing a long tube with a camera on the end into areas of the horse we would otherwise be unable to see.  Having several different types and sizes of endoscopes allows us to visualize the airways of both foals and adult horses and to extend all the way to the stomach of the largest horses for our GI exams.
    - assisted reproductive care including A.I., semen collection and embryo transfer**
We are set up to be able to collect stallions for artificial insemination using either fresh, on-site breeding, or cooled, shipped semen.  We also routinely house mares for breeding with semen shipped from around the country and internationally.  We have a variety of packages available.  Call for more info.
    - pre-purchase exams
The pre-purchase exam is a vital part of the process involved in buying a horse.  This is not a decision to be taken lightly and we pride ourselves on the thoroughness of our examinations and the depth our explanation of everything we are doing and why.
    - 24 hour emergency service
We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for any emergency needs that might arise.  By calling our regular phone number, you will be directed to the specific number of the doctor on call.  We are able to provide emergency farm calls and can hospitalize intensive acare cases as needed at our facility.

**  Many assisted reproductive techniques are available on the farm; however, most are preferably done in the hospital setting due to equipment and staffing needs.
